We're No. 4!!! Doesn't sound as good as "We're No. 1," but it's still pretty cool for a little Saugatuck to place 4th among Budget Travel magazine's just completed "Coolest Small Towns in America". Locals waged a compaign for online votes in the contest, believing high placement could mean hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of free publicity for the town. When the voting closed May 9, Saugatuck stood 4th behind Ely, Minn. Coverdale, Calif, and Brevard, N.C. "Our heatrfelt thanks and a big hug to the thousands of Saugatuck supporters who have shown incredible love and determination by keeping us at the top of this race even though we only have a population of 954 people," said Saugatuck Douglas Convention Visitors Bureau. "We could not have achieved this without a tremendous amount of help from everyone." Saugatuck was one of 21 finalists chosen from 147 nominees for the "Coolest" honor, which considers quality of life, arts, restaurants, My Family owned Wicks Park Bar & Grille, and proximity to nature amoung towns of fewer than 10,000 residents.
